Cod liver oil or fish oil? : PeterAttia

Why do UK fish and chip shops only sell Cod and Haddock?
Main Post:
Why not a range of white fish or cheaper varieties. We seem to send a lot of our fish abroad, why?

What does Cod taste like compared to salmon?
Main Post:
I've had salmon before and it's very fishy, so how does cod compare to Salmon? I'm trying to eat fish more often.
Top Comment: It's like comparing a banana to a jalapeño. Both are fruits but they are on opposite ends of the flavor and texture spectrum.
Does cod contain significantly more of any nutrients than salmon does?
Main Post:
Cod seems nutritionally inferior to salmon and trout, among others. For instance, it contains significantly less vitamin D and omega-3 (two of the main attractions of fish?), but maybe I'm neglecting some less known, but still useful nutrients. I'm aware that you get e.g. more protein per kcal from cod than from fattier fish, but some of us struggle more with maintaining/gaining than with losing weight, which should also be taken into account. Moreover, there are those who simply prefer meals with trout or salmon to meals with cod.
So, nutritionally speaking, are there any good reasons to eat cod if you eat other types of fish and aren't worried about weight gain? Does cod contain some less known, but very useful nutrients that I''ve never heard of?
(My source for nutritional information as far as this comparison goes is the databases that the calorie/nutrient tracking app Cronometer relies on.)

Thoughts on cod.
Main Post:
I’ve tried cod every way; and I’m still not a fan of it. Baked, sautéed, fried, soup; even high quality conservas.
I still don’t like it. Am I doing something wrong?
Top Comment:
Sometimes you just don't like something.
Am I a crappy cook or does Cod just suck?
Main Post:
Every time I try to cook this stupid fish it turns into dried out rubber. I recently followed a recipe that called for 2x cod fillets, baked at 425 for 14 minutes. Fish came out inedible.
I don't get what's wrong. I cook salmon, ahi, and tilapia all the time and it comes out great, but with cod it always comes out either mushy or rubbery. What the hell am I doing wrong? Or is cod just gross?
Top Comment: I got equally frustrated until I realised I was overcooking the cod. Cook it quick and hot. Cutting it into bite sized pieces and basically stir frying it worked nicely.

Fresh cod fillets. Best way to cook?
Main Post:
I am novice when it comes to fish and don’t want to mess up some beautiful cod fillets I caught on a charter trip. The have already been skinned and filleted for me. I just need to do a little clean up leftover from the dock but otherwise are ready to go.
What are some good, FOOL PROOF ways to cook and season these? Thanks!
Top Comment: Other than just searing it in a bunch of butter, this is usually my go to for Cod: https://www.seriouseats.com/the-easiest-crispy-pan-seared-fish-food-lab-recipe You still get a good taste of the fish by only breading the one side, and the breaded side makes it harder to overcook.
Is cod considered high quality fish/delicacy?
Main Post:
I've always found it bland even when cooked by chefs, i much prefer salmon or "arctic char", cod just reminds me of fish sticks. Fish n chips is one of the worst foods.
Is this a worldwide thing? Over here, cod is like as expensive as salmon or even moreso, and it's treated as luxury meals.
Top Comment:
cod is delicious and it is a high quality fish. Also, please take note that some fish and chips shops and even some restaurants serve another type of fish, less expensive, as cod, which of course does no have the same taste.
Struggling with Cod
Main Post:
Guys I have adopted a mostly pescatarian diet and I’m trying my damndest to make cod taste good but so far all of the marinating are seasoning has done nothing but thinly veil the repulsive flavor that is cod fish. The only way I’ve been able to enjoy it is - you guessed it - battered and deep fried. Which is the kind of thing I’m trying to avoid because I can’t have very fatty foods. So. Does anyone have some magical recipe for cod that is NOT garlic/lemon/butter or anything that’s obvious from the first page of google results for “cod recipes”? Because I’m about ready to give up on this fish.
Top Comment:
Look up blackened cod. or any blackened fish, really. Especially any cajun recipes, just use fat that isnt butter. Its going to be covered in spices that would cover up the taste you don't like. Im not sure why youre still eating it if you find it "repulsive." life's just too short for things you dont like lol. If your going to eat fish that you already think is crappy, just save your money and buy tilapia.
Cod is great for fish tacos as well, which can also cover up the flavor. just make a simple crema(idk if you have an issue with mayo or dairy), raw cabbage, and some simple salsa(like mango salsa or a chipotle salsa. those are my favorites for a fish taco)
